e-Document Storage Repository

This project’s goal is to update Living Lab’s current file repository, allowing students to upload a project along with a summary through a web-based front-end. The Omeka website will allow students, staff, and authorized guests to browse through the repository, search projects by semester, client, student, and type. Additionally, the text from pdf files is added to the searchable text, as a building block for future work to read all the document types that are likely to be uploaded. While there are certainly plenty of features to implement in the future, and even more data entry to fully duplicate the current file repository, the beta-testing has ended successfully.

My time in Living Lab was really beneficial because the software we learned about is used in the real world. I learned additional skills, such as being disciplined on arrival time, trying different methods to solve problems, and asking help from peers. The work is challenging and exercises a broad set of soft skills as well as technical skills. In working as a webmaster, the Living Lab challenges your ability to communicate, delegate, and prioritize your projects as new issues occur. Definitely a valuable set of skills for any kind of work. The Living Lab has taught me that not all projects will go as planned. You will run into problems and situations that frustrate you.
